| De la
distribution, on distinguera une éblouissante Ortrud de Janice Baird (remplaçant
Gabriela Schnaut). Cette artiste se hisse progressivement au rang des plus
grandes tenantes des rôles de Turandot (qu’elle chanta à Strasbourg),
d’Elektra, Brünnhilde (récemment à Toulouse) et bientôt Isolde (Toulouse
toujours). La beauté et la puissance de la voix sont déjà un sérieux atout,
mais il faut louer une beauté et une intelligence scénique confondantes. La
manière dont Baird s’affiche durant tout le premier acte (où elle ne chante
pourtant que dans les ensembles, sans aucun solo) impose le personnage au
premier plan. L’assurance avec laquelle elle s’illustre ensuite dans tout le
deuxième acte est là encore écrasante. Du grand art. |

Pero los mejores momentos de la noche se los
debió el público a Janice Baird, monumental Ortrud de grata presencia
escénica, temperamento y, ante todo, adecuacíon vocal. la impresionante voz de
esta soprano dramática es voluminosa, extensa y además emitida con tal furia e
ira que daba la impresión de que el escenario se empequeñecia
ante sus ansias de devorarlo todo.

haciendo con su derroche de voz clara y precisa en cada momento dando al
personaje la fuerza y dramatismo precisos. Sin duda triunfodora
aasimismo a lal velada.-

concebida con amplitud en su delirante furia, que no se contenta más que con

si fuera poco, la articulación del reparto funcionó con rotundidad
indiscutible. Especialmente en la encarnación pletórica de frescura vocal
que Robert Dean Smith realizó de Lohengrin y en la magistral Elsa de Elena
Prokina, pletórica de recursos expresivos. A su lado el fascinante Telramund
de Hartmut Welker y la impactante Ortud de Janice Baird redondearon
vocalmente una velada en la que también debe destacarse de forma más que
notable el magnífico trabajo de Ángel Odena como el Heraldo Real.

musical, en tanto, entabla coordenadas de una precisión
calibradísima: Janice Baird cantó la noche del jueves menguada
por una afección en la laringe. La sapiencia con que maneja sus
haberes canoros, el tinte exacto de sus modulaciones, su elevada
destreza escénica la hicieron brillar empero en los tonos opacos
que eligió, siempre en mezzopiano hacia el mezzoforte, e
hicieron brotar alaridos de entre las butacas. Ovaciones
semejantes recibieron Genaro Sulvarán, espléndido también en
tintes oscuros, y la revelación Rolando Villazón como Macduff,
sencillamente deslumbrante.
En las
entrañas de la tragedia
Voces
oscuras, eso pide Verdi. Un barítono profundo, ''de voz negra",
gustaba de jugar con las palabras el compositor. Una soprano de
tono oscuro, o de plano una mezzo. Janice Baird hizo de su
laringe un juego de fuegos de artificio, una sorda batalla
librada en la parte oscura de la flama, un batir de alas de
paloma dentro de una cámara forrada en su interior con seda y
lino. Ella es Lady Macbeth y su paso sonámbulo es la figura
dominante a lo largo de toda la ópera, aunque su esposo Macbeth,
señor de Glamis, señor de Cawdor, es quien está en las entrañas
de la mismísima tragedia. |
